Experience Desert life with Smash!

Dear Parents

Droob Educational Consultancy plans camping trips to the Bahariya and Farafra Oases 600 Km. south west of Cairo, on paved roads for Campers from ages 12 to 16, for 4 days 3 nights, from Friday, January 28th, 2011 to Monday, January 31st, 2011. This trip will be led by Mr. Mostafa Kamal accompanied by 2-3 other Smash katameya Supervisors for every 33 to 44 Campers. The trip will include visiting different local sites on the way and in the Oases. Transport will be by micro-buses. Droob will provide tents, cooking equipment and food but Campers will take turns in preparing meals.

The purpose of this trip is to experience life in the desert, and to familiarize Teenagers with the desert environment, its people, flora and fauna as well as helping them to become responsible individuals. This is not a picnic; but a trip to the desert without any luxuries, therefore campers selected must be mature, sensible and self-sufficient.

The cost of the trip is LE 1350 for Smash campers only campers from outside Smash cost LE 1450. This cost covers transport, food, site visits, and accommodations for 4 days & Bedouin Dinner in the White Desert). Trip cost should be submitted to Smash’s Katameya Event Coordinator latest by Sunday 20th January 2011. (After this date the registered applicants get no refund)

Trip Itinerary

First day: Departure at 7:30 am from Smash katameya by micro-buses. Arrival at Bahariya at about 11:30 am, 30 minutes rest in Bahariya Oasis then departure at 1:00 pm for Farafra Oasis, dinner and overnight in Farafra campsite.

Second Day: Visit local museum and Moufeed Lake, in the afternoon visit the Roman Spring, gardens and have dinner there.

Third Day: Visit local museum, afternoon Bedouin dinner in White Desert 40 Km. north of Farafra, overnight in campsite.

Fourth Day: Departure to Cairo, visit the Iron Mines on the way back, Dates Factory in Bahariya Oasis, arrival at Smash katameya at about 9:00 pm from where campers should be picked by parents.

The campers will sleep 4/5 to a tent and each tent will take turn in cooking for everybody. Food will be purchased in advance in Cairo and is included in the overall cost paid for the trip. Pocket money should not exceed 400 LE for a simple reason there is little available to buy.

Each camper should bring the items listed below:

Warm socks 6 rolls tissue paper swimming suit/towel

Socks/old shoes

Hat/cap/slippers

NO Audio or Visual devices NO Mobiles NO Junk Food NO expensive Cameras

Campers' luggage (2 bags only per camper) should be in Smash katameya on Thursday 27th January 2011. The flashlight, the jacket, the cutlery and sandwiches for the road should be in a backpack with them on the day of the trip. Three meetings will be set to date and held before 27/1/2011 to train the registered applicants to the camp and orient them and their parents on the trip.
